On the 1st day of the month, we will award a Golden Plunger to the best public restroom facility that we’ve reviewed during the previous month.

Each September 28th, in honor of Thomas Crapper’s birthday, we will convey our highest honor, The Thomas Crapper Award™, to our choice for Asheville’s best public restroom.

  1. A very important requirement in a rest room is the availability of hot water. I have been in many eating or retail food establishments that lack this crucial amenity, while displaying the required sign that employees must wash hands with disinfectant soap and hot water when using the facility.

I also strongly favor rest rooms that have their doors opening from the inside out so that you don’t have to grab the door handle after just washing your hands to exit.

    • To see a revolutionary example of a door opening mechanism that doesn’t require one to grab the door handle on the way out, read our review of Whole Foods Market. They won November’s Golden Plunger in large measure due to this door opening breakthrough.

As for hot water being essential, we agree.
